The first time that I saw him

He was wearing them to church

They’re looked old, stuffed and scratchy

Like the ones he wore at work

He was just a common man

He didn’t even know a suit

But you could see the pride reflecting in the shinny

Of Pawpaw’s Sunday boots

Every time he wore them

I couldn’t help but stare

I guess one day he noticed

Cos he sat down in his chair

He slipped them off en said

Sonny why don’t you try pull them on

They might not fit you now

But they will be yours some day when am gone

Even after all this time

I still can’t fit his shoes

But I wouldn’t take a million dollars

For Papaw’s Sunday boots

It wasn’t until our wedding day

That I took them from the bath

Still they didn’t fit me

So I wore two pairs of socks

Saddle them in the closset

I didn’t wear them for a while

Until I put them on the day

We brought home our first new born child

And now I made a special list

Of things I want to do before I am gone

I wanna wear them up on that stage

And sing his favourite song

I wanna walk out of that door up here

And then my last request

Make sure I am wearing

Pawpaw’s Sunday boots

The day I am laid to rest
