The Scarecrow - Circulus

All heed the rarest sight

Scarecrow running through the dead of night

He has 'till sunrise

To reach the field where the farmer’s corn

Will find the ravens' bellies

Come the dawn

Out of breath he had a rest

Sat down for a cigarette

But the wind took the flame

Set his hand alight

Burning scarecrow running through the night

Don’t burn out before your time

As the fire licked his brain

A turquoise light he saw again

And gently rising

From the sky he saw himself in a dirty pond

All washed out

And sure enough the following morn

The ravens gorged on the farmer’s corn

And the farmer stood in the morning rain

By the edge of the pond and all that remained

Of the scarecrow

Of the scarecrow
