Voices drift in and out, inside I’m screaming

But nothing comes out…

I cannot move or respond.

I feel nothing;

I am numb to the world

Life like a dream runs right past me

Fragmented, distorted and blurred

Then slowly, I awaken.

Out of oblivion, my dormant soul is shaken

Out of the coma — like being exhumed

Out of the coma — rising up out of the tomb

A slit of light penetrates my eyelids

Shapes become sharper, sounds become clear

Like floating up from the bottom of the ocean

Hold still as the surface tension’s broken

Out of the coma — through the darkness rising

Out of the coma — into a second lifetime

Like a volcano — from the depths erupting

Only the tubes reach inside me, feeding and draining my flesh

How many years have I slept by, cocooned in a living death?
