Ravenous whirlpools in the gutter

Iron teeth lurking 'neath the surface

Sweet pitch black December dystopia

Miserably wet with what should’ve been snowfall

Currently out of office

Closed until further notice

Vacant storefronts promise no warmth

Everything must go, and so everyone went

But I remained

Aimlessly I wander

Neurochemically inert

Lured into this tomb of a city

Paving stones like scorched earth

Glancing up, envisioning the blinding light of day

Incandescent landscapes burning through the canopy

A parenthesis in paragraphs of grey

I must escape

Devolved instincts of hibernation

Make their presence known up north

Anxiously we seek sedation

Ushering the days forth

And to think we traded sunlit plains for this

I shake my head and journey on into the nothingness

And as ashen spires encapsulate my world

I reminisce
