When I was a younger man

The viper world was in my hands

Everything seemed like it was for now

Open doorways that I’d find

Impressive heights for me to climb

And confident that I’d prevail somehow

All the pieces into place

The look of passion on my face

To take the chance to be part of a whole

With endless promise in front of me

On such a path to destiny

Whoever thought that I would lose control

If I were a smarter man

With better grip from helping hands

Would any of this differently unfold?

From up and down and left to right

I didn’t always have the sight

Did I end up so blind by being bold?

When true emotion has no end

Enemies made from my friends

When true intentions have all gone astray

When senseless pride prevents your mind

From knowing what to seek and find

As quickly fortune comes it goes away

Carrying the weight

Of a thousand memories

Drowning in the sea of yesterday

Trudging through the dark

Hoping to get back my time

To the very end of what remains

Now that I’m an older man

And life’s no longer in my hands

I sit and wonder where I’ll go from here

Abandoned by the ones I’ve known

I’ve harvested what I have sown

And feeling like the end is drawing near

So what will be my legacy?

What you’ll remember about me?

Was I a mark of honor or a fool?

And as the curtain starts to fall

I wonder was it worth it all

The ending of this story is so cruel

The story’s over

The happy ending was an illusion

It’s all behind me now

And nowhere left to go
