The weekend before first semester ends

We’re in Paul’s room pounding miller lights

Listening to left speaker Marley

And I wonder if he’s ever taken out the trash

So I step outside to get some air

Light a cigarette and see her walking there

Stack of books and a command

And she let herself into the dorm

Didn’t see me beside the door

Suffice it to say she didn’t see me

All of a hundred pounds and skinny jeans

Reeking of tobacco and egg and cheese

But in the moment the door shut she had become my world

So I step outside to get some air

With a smile and her hand in my hand

And she led us both into the dorm

I was standing beside her for sure
